Being a coach is not giving advice, it is not intended to "fix" something that is "wrong." Coaching is the act of deep listening and non-judgemental observation. A coach responds by sharing what they heard and observed. They reflect back what you have said, what you did, and often provide insights about what and how you communicated that you may not be aware of. They may share stories of their own experience in similar situations, or use metaphors to provide a different perspective of your experience. They will ask questions that invite you to explore your motivations, your intent and your desired outcomes. They will never give advice except to guide you toward additional resources for your own exploration. They will invite you to explore options for future actions and will be happy to provide you with one follow-up feedback session where you can ask additional questions and share any insights.
